About Rabbi Berger
Rabbi Moshe Berger attended the Maimonides School in Brookline, Massachusetts and Yeshiva University, where he was a talmid Rabbi Aharon Lichtenstein and Rabbi Haym Soloveitchik. He earned a Ph. D. Harvard University in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, working with Rabbi Prof. Yitzchok Twersky as his thesis advisor. His doctoral thesis analyzed the Torah commentary of Rashbam. During his junior year abroad, he learned at Yeshivat Kerem B'Yavne. After graduating from Yeshiva University, he studied at the Hebrew University and participated in a year-long semi-private shiur with Nechama Leibowitz.
Rabbi Berger was a Professor of Bible and Rabbinic Literature at the various iterations of the Cleveland College of Jewish Studies (Siegel College) in Beachwood, Ohio, for almost forty years. Previously, he served as the Orthodox Hillel Rabbi at Brandeis, Harvard-Radcliffe, and Case Western Reserve Universities. In addition, he served as the Rabbi of Sinai Synagogue for ten years and scholar-in-residence at Oheb Zedek Cedar-Sinai Synagogue. At the Young Israel of Greater Cleveland, he was scholar-in-residence for thirteen years, where he served as the Shabbat afternoon darshan and Rabbi of the Torat Tziyon Kollel minyan. He lectured and taught classes at various cities throughout America via video-teleconferencing and scholar -in- residences. Rabbi Berger and his wife, Marilyn, made aliyah to Alon Shevut in 2022.
